    Southgate thankfully prefers the 3 at the back with 2 holders which is the only thing stopping England winning another tournament in my lifetime.I could not believe Clarke played McTominay as one of his 3 central defenders v Ukraine leaving Souttar and other defenders on the bench.

    If you are an international manager and you cannot trust your international class defenders to manage with 4 at the back you really should not have taken the job.

    I think the main reason Scotland did it was the tierney robertson thing, the reason united do it is to protect our slow defenders
