Thread: Our new shirt sponsor.

  1. #1

    Our new shirt sponsor.

United are getting grief in the courier from sheepie Jamie Gillies (who claims to have a soft spot for United, hmmmm) for having an online betting company as their shirt sponsor next season.

The gist is that a lot of folk get addicted to gambling and it causes real harm so football clubs like United shouldn't get involved with them.

The question I have is, which organisation types does he deem it ok to sponsor a football club? Last season United had Eden Gin as a sponsor, is that ok given the harm alcoholic products can do if misused?

Not surprisingly, there’s absolutely no mention of the fact that The Rangers are similarly sponsored and have been for a number of years. As have Newcastle United who also are now funded directly by a total despot of a country.

But rather than getting involved in ‘what-a-boutery’, I’ve noticed a gradual disconnect between the Club and the local ‘press’ over the last couple of years. Increasingly, Courier and Evening Telegraph reports are populated with and filled out with sections directly lifted from other sources such as websites, other news outlets and even The Dode Fox Podcast! So although there’s no The Rangers/BBC outright ‘ban’ in place I would hardly say there’s currently a close link between the local press and The Club. You could argue wether this is good or bad, but what it may do is encourage negative reports such as this one almost as an act of ‘revenge’ for lack of press access.

Load of ****e, if someone is that weak that seeing a shirt with a betting site on it is going to send them on a spiral leading them to ruin then thats their problem. Why should we cater to 0.01% of the population.

I think we should have went with a safe pair of hands with companies like Crown Engineering,Kilmac or Scott Fyffe motors who continued to pay Charlie Adam's wages after he crashed into a tree whilst pyshed.

Well someone must be going on to this site Quin Casino after reading the name on the shirt. Otherwise why would they bother sponsoring.
Losing a bit of money for pleasure. They don't have to be addicted. Always gamble responsibly - whatever that means.

Exactly mate, never once did watching United with Eden Mill on the shirt lead me to drink( watching United full stop can do that though!) . Watching United with advertising for organic vegetables wouldn't turn me into a ****ing vegan either. Weak willed people are gonna get addicted to **** whether it's on a football shirt or not.

F*cking nonsense. If someone had asked me who Utds shirt sponsor was last season I'd have probably struggled to tell them.

Yep, biggest issue for me was seeing McNulty on the back of a shirt tbh
