And yet, the Burnley takeover was waved through by the PL checks.

No club should ever be allowed to be bought as a running debt. Any football club owner, should be able to afford the club they buy. That does not always result in it being owned and ran with honesty and integrity *as we found to our cost) but far tok many chancers are being allowed to buy clubs, using the club itself as the collateral towards the loan.
Immoral and it should also be illegal.

The immoralists would argue that that's the way you buy a house on a mortgage with the building itself as collateral.

It is whoever has been stupid enough to stupidly finance the deal who is mostly to blame. Personally, I hope it goes t1ts up for them, they lose out dramatically, and a genuine football consortium is able to mop up at a bargain price and put that famous club back where it should be, with the genuine supporters.

Reminiscing over Burnley, when I was a lad they were always a top, well-run club in the old first division under local butcher man Bob Lord.

It does make you wonder what the purpose is of the PL fit and proper owner test is?
Pat’s analogy is good about a mortgage but even a bank wants to know your income stream before deciding how much to lend you. If Burnley are having to sell assets to service a debt for a relegation which, with all due respect, isn’t a great surprise, then the PL ‘test’ is once more shown up as a bit of a joke.

Aye, it is a real joke, but the joke wasn't funny the way they dealt with the transactions over the purchase of our club.

If they had been so scrupulous with the sales of Burnley and the ultra-rapid dealing with Chelski I think there may have been different outcomes.

Pope is a very good 'keeper but, then, so is Dubravka.

Hopefully they can spur each other on and the increased competition will keep Dubravka on his toes but I'd still have him as our number one to start the season.

Pope has to be number one i doubt he would be signing if he has been told he needs to fight Dubravka for a starting place.

He's in Toon for the medical apparently. At £10 million Burnley are basically giving him to us!

Reminds me of the time we had both Harper and Given battling for top place. They even looked alike. I always thought that Harper was always a bit underated Due to Given being an international.

I wish Nick all the best at Newcastle,he's been our best player for some time now,but for him we would have been relegated a long ago..
If its true and you only paid 10 million for him,you have got the deal of the century.
Shame on the Burnley board and owners for selling him so cheap..
I'm sure he will do you proud.
