I reckon the real Paul McCartney would have been far better but sadly we will never know
Anyone else watch him last night? Not bad for someone who is now 80 to do a 2 1/2 hour plus set! Yes, his voice is far from what it was even a few years ago and it's wobble was exposed on the quieter acoustic songs but on the bigger numbers his musicianship and that of his long time touring band made up for that weakness. Of course, when you have a back catalogue as big and good as his it helps and don't blame him for slipping in a few lesser known numbers.
The thing that struck me most was how many of the audience -most of whom were not even alive when he had hits with Wings let alone the Beatles-knew the songs and got into it which, I guess, only re-enforces his iconic status. Don't know how much longer he can keep doing big live shows with that shaky voice though however much he still enjoys doing it but, whatever some may think of him, his reputation was cemented years ago anyway.

Past his sell by date. Just like Diana Ross…..she was awful!
I've heard McCartney do smaller gigs fairly recently and his voice was Ok but he really can't do the big shows anymore with lots of numbers. Its not too bad on the "big" songs where the vocals of his band support him but certainly poor on the acoustic stuff. As for Diana Ross, like many older singers, cant disagree that she was poor. I heard Rod Stewart a few years ago and he was good but his voice has deteriorated now too as has Elton's judging from his recent Norwich show. Sadly very few singers can carry on into old age.
I admire the fact that McCartney is still capable of performing at the age of 80 but his voice just isn't what it used to be, and understandably so. I was a great fan of Paul McCartney and the Beatles and much prefer to listen to their music as it was then. If I was him I would retire now as he is a living legend and will always maintain his iconic status.
Totally agree Leicester. Bit like leaders of countries, Politicians and Judges - it’s 2022 so they should not be allowed to carry on as they loose their sharpness after retirement age. Not saying anyone shouldn’t work after retirement as far from it - not in powerful positions. McCartney was ok to be fair but his voice like Diana Ross, Rod Stewart and Simon Le Bon was nowhere near the same and they all looked their age on stage - doddery!
I did like seeing that Olivia Rodrigo though! It’s Glastonbury for f uck sake not a museum!
Bit like Roy Hodgson who I really liked - he should have retired gracefully rather than spoil his reputation at Watford!
