Pleased to see another new face ...
PS - like the 'back on track' pun 😉
Anyone going today? On the train ourselves, on the way.
Team News
Richards, Mellor, Uwakwe, Colkett, Offord, McDonald, Ainley, Thomas, Agyei, Finney, Brook.
SUBS: Billington, Booth, Tabiner, Sass-Davies, O'Riordan, Holicek, Griffiths.
All these injuries are making me nervous. Looking like a repeat of last year. We are extremely thin on the ground with one week to go and this match not finished yet.
Murphy absent, injured or going somewhere else, I wonder if he is on trial somewhere today?
So another useful run-out against a rather 'muscular' Rotherham. Friendly or not, Ainley came in for repeated rough treatment. Any competitive game would have led to a couple of double yellows.
Usual slow start led to conceding after only 40 seconds. The Millers were fast, athletic and keen to get the ball in the air to the box. Understandable considering the ability of Georgie Kelly to get a lot of height in his jumps.
From outside, Richards was out of position twice for the goals, dropped the ball once and almost fluffed a back pass in the face of a chasing opposition player. Mellor did well enough, Offord was out -mucled for the 2nd. Mcdonald was glad to see the back of Kelly and grew into the game. Uwakwe is great going forward but less so defending (he's much better in midfield!) Thomas and Colket were fine considering the lack of match fitness. Ainley, when allowed to stay on his feet, seems more robust than previous years. Finney actually contributed- a useful header, a couple of 'precise' passes and most importantly, an accurate ground cross in to Agyei for our goal.
Brook looks really useful- ability to turn, take on players, and good vision. Agyei isn't a target man but clearly has an eye for goal and is great running at players.
Sambou came on to make a nuisance of himself. Murphy didn't have time to do anything and Tabiner and Lunt showed that were comfortable enough against this opposition.
When (if) Morris can choose from a fully fit squad, he'll have to consider different formations to accomodate Brook, Long and Uwakwe.
I meant to say- at this stage last year, Bennett looked like he could be quite exciting but didn't produce and like most loanees last year, spent most of his time injured. Hopefully, Brook will be more useful.
Great match report Gazan...
... and particularly this bit !!
"Finney actually contributed- a useful header, a couple of 'precise' passes and most importantly, an accurate ground cross in to Agyei for our goal."
Respect.
