    Chesterfield suffer 100,000 embezzlement

Derbyshire Constabulary has confirmed it is investigating an incident at Chesterfield Football Club that's seen three people arrested on suspicion of theft. No further details regarding who's been arrested or the theft itself have been released by the force.

Derbyshire Live understands the incident in question is connected to an allegation that £100,000 has been embezzled from the football club. It followed messages posted on a social media forum connected to supporters of Chesterfield Football Club where the allegation of embezzlement was made in a number of posts.

We've contacted Chesterfield Football Club for their response to the arrests and the allegation of embezzlement but a spokesperson at the club said they weren't making a comment at this stage.

statement, a Derbyshire police spokesperson told Derbyshire Live: "On Thursday, May 19, we received reports of a theft at Chesterfield Football Club. An investigation was launched, and three men have been arrested on suspicion of theft.

"They have been released under investigation while enquiries continue."

No further information by the force and the three men involved cannot be named at this stage for legal reasons.

The announcement of the arrests and the investigation will be seen as a blow for the North Derbyshire Football Club on the eve of players returning for pre-season training. Chesterfield made it through to the National League Playoffs at the end of last season but lost to Solihull Moors.

The Spireites are set to begin their fifth season in the National League in August with former manager Paul Cook returning to the Technique Stadium aiming to return the club to the Football League. The National League fixture list hasn't been released for the new season yet but Chesterfield hasn't been wasting any time and have already added seven new faces to the squad.
