This is by no means any defence of Boris but it’s worth remembering that many of those guilty of party going and other shenanigans are civil servants not “ chosen” or “ elected” by the Prime Minister
If by some miracle overnight Starmer becomes PM he would inherit most of the staff working in or around Number 10 and 11 Downing Street. As such he would have to put up with the same incompetence
Boris Johnson should have cleared them all out.David Frost was a very good advisor but Carrie didn't like him so he was kicked out.Whitehall is overrun with under achieving grossly overpaid civil servants that are never accountable.Governments come and go but they carry on collecting their fat cheques.
The party going is a minor part of the issue. It's the lies and lack of even a hint of integrity that has done him in. That comes from the top.
Good riddance to bad rubbish very soon. Of course we don't know who we will get, but on the assumption that no right thinking political party could elect Rees-Mogg, Patel or Dorries as leader, it will almost certainly be an improvement from very low base.
Frost is an idiot who managed to alienate the EU and make any sensible compromise impossible. You may mouth froth about the EU, but they are our main trading partners, crucial allies and closest neighbours.
Behaving like dicks - agreeing treaties and reneging on them after two years - isn't a great idea
Wrong. A big concern of the Civil Service is a lot of the decent top brass were ousted by the Gov, or left because they weren't yes men (or women). They were replaced by Tory puppets. The most voted for staff concerns and questions raised since 2008 at a certain CS event for years has pay freezes or rises of no more than 1%. Two years ago that was topped by concerns over the top brass being 'moved on' and replaced with yes men who bowed to the Torys and didn't stand up for the civil service, although Simon Case was at that event so people might have been trying to make a point.
So if and when Labour come in, expect many of them to move on, or be moved on.
Rumours have circulated for weeks that Johnson could call an election very soon in an attempt to save his skin and win the Tories another term .
It's not totally out of the question that he could win albeit with a massively reduced majority .
Johnson is a chancer and with Labour hardly pulling any trees up he could pull this off .
It would be a mistake to underestimate Johnson .
