    Yep.

    No need to do that imo. Just tell him to stay down the middle. A wider pitch could help by drawing defenders away from him.

    When Steve Thompson was manager I can't recall him ever commenting on the playing surface.

    The ball didn't touch it very often though

    Didn't need to, that clearly wasn't the plan. The ball touched the grass a lot more under McParland, but it didn't end in a goal very often.

    The moral of the story is to play to your players strengths, rather than try and force them to play to yours.

    “If God had wanted us to play football in the sky, He’d have put grass up there.”

    Nobody can say Thompson didn't have a clear plan, it just didn't really involve passing to teammates lol
    Instead it was a lot more 'Gerrrrittttt forward' and bypass the whole of the midfield {and repeat}

    To be fair, we he had a midfield of Matt Somner and Dan Martin, it was probably for the best we bypassed them

    Lol true.

    But don't forget we had 'wing wizard' Andy Parkinson and 'playmakers' Jay Smith and Ian Ross being totally bypassed and asked to pick up scraps for 90 mins
