    End of an era

Nice piece here on the final edition of a Saturday evening sports paper being published (in Portsmouth):

    https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...wspaper-closes

I can’t even remember when the Football Post was last published, but it will always be inextricably linked to memories of Saturday evenings - either picking up a copy on the way home from the match just after 5pm or waiting at the local shop for the paper to arrive by 6pm.

Top front-page headline ever? “Notts Supreme as Forest Flounder” from the mid-70s.

According to this, Footy Post finished in 1980?

It was definitely available after that. I’m pretty sure it was available 92/93, possibly later.

Definitely late 80s/early 90s. Can remember the old Welsh bloke (Taff?) who used to rush down from town with a load of copies after the match. Would occasionally let you have one if you were coming out of the Meadow Club but only after the Notts players that wanted one had had one.

I well remember the banter as we awaited delivery in Netherfield, as for " Notts supreme as Forest flounder" I had the copy on my bedroom wall until I moved some 21 years ago, I wish I still had it, happy days. COYP.

My favourite headline and only one I can remember following the Steve Cherry inspired victory over Man City, later shown on MOTD.

Definitely available well into the 90's. My son was born 1989 and I can remember showing it to him when he was 7 / 8, possibly a bit older.

Used to deliver it on Sat nights, read it until it finished.

I also used to get the football handbook, can't remember what it was called though. Published every season, I think by the same publishers as Evening and Football Post. Anyone remember those?

I remember being sent to the local newsagent to queue for that in the 70's. Considering the technology they had it was very efficient and more accurate that most of the local news rubbish you get today.
