Disappointing, but not a surprise. In my opinion, Cal is/was our best player but we’ve rarely got the best out of him with the formation we play.
Will be sad to see him go but wish him all the best and at least we’ve got a fee for him - albeit less than he’s worth.

The player I'd ultimately compare Cal to is Aidy Thorpe. Both had an immediate impact after they signed - crowd-pleasers who scored brilliant individual goals. But both got injuries that derailed a season, and neither was quite as good when they returned from injury and also seemingly fell out with new managers (Warnock and Burchnall).

No great loss imo, take the £100k and invest in a centre mid

Agreed great player but only for short periods - good luck for the future Cal.

I for one am absolutely gutted and not surprised he is going, not only was he severely under used and out of formation Burchnall but the vitriol on here towards him was completely and utterly unwarranted. We have to take some responsibility for him going. If 100k is all we got, we were robbed!!

How can it be fans fault a footballer is surely smart enough to work out social media is fickle you get praise and stick.

He was clearly acting abit of a berk with all the Free Roberts rubbish.

People keep saying we've been robbed but lets say he went for £150k he is a NL player with one year left and he MIGHT have wanted to go.

Roberts will no doubt be on double/treble his salary id not worry too much about him

In my eyes it’s a massive loss and not for a lot of money but I don’t blame him to go and further his career. He was a bit indifferent at the start of last season, seemed to be trying too hard after a bad injury but came good as the season went on.

The attacker has been an influential figure since his arrival from Blyth Spartans in January 2020 and was expected to play a big role once again in 2022-23.

However, Aberdeen were able to meet our valuation of Roberts over the weekend and, following discussions with the player, their offer was accepted.

A statement from our board of directors reads: “First and foremost, we thank Callum for his many excellent performances and wish him well with his new club.

“We also thank Aberdeen for their cooperation and swiftness in reaching an agreement which we feel is fair and beneficial to all parties.

“Since recognising Callum’s immense potential by bringing him to Meadow Lane two-and-a-half years ago and extending his deal until the end of the 2022-23 season shortly thereafter, we have rejected a number of bids from several clubs for his services.

“However, as much as we had hoped to have him with us for this season’s promotion push, what Aberdeen have been able to offer both us and Callum, who departs to play top-flight football with the potential to compete in Europe in future seasons, leaves us in no doubt that the correct decision has been reached.

“Today’s news will of course be disappointing for our supporters, who we know shared our enjoyment of watching Callum in full flow, but we would like to assure them that, as with all high-performing players, we have been planning for this eventuality for some time.

“We have always made it clear that revenue from player sales will be reinvested in the squad and have already commenced dialogue with our head coach, Luke Williams, to assess the impact of Callum’s departure and how it may affect our ongoing recruitment plans.

“This summer has already seen us add a number of exciting attacking players to the squad and we will continue to assess various targets to identify those who can help us achieve our ambition of returning to the EFL this season.”

I've always felt fans are more than a tad unrealistic and optimistic when it comes to what transfer fees players they really like can actually achieve.

Even moreso when you factor he's in his final season and that same club could wait one more year and offer more in wages to secure his signature and save £100-150K. Albeit they risk increased competition.

More importantly if (and admittedly it's a big IF) he wanted to go then the club's hand is ultimately forced.
