"'E's 'ad the Jewson lot".
Carolyn Bryant Donham, 88
Quite a good innings, unlike Emmett Till (14) who she got tortured and murdered
Gordon Lightfoot, A wonderful singer/songwriter. Another music legend gone.
Andy Rourke
Probably the best 45 minutes in 51 years of gig attendance was when The Smiths played at Aberdeen Capitol in June 84. Rourke DROVE the band that night, even using that crappy, trebly Yamaha bass.
After 45 minutes the band returned, and a couple of minutes into Hand In Glove (I think), Mozz was glad-handing the moshpit, and some fûcking idiot toonser dragged him down on to the floor. The band stopped and walked off. I saw them again by which time Johnny had found his groove, but Rourke and Joyce took care of the heavy lifting.
FFS.
I guess SMsW will never get round to seeing them.
Folk said his finest moment was ‘Barbarism Begins at Home’ but for me it was always ‘This Charming Man’ (Hatful of Hollow version, not the sh1te single)
The good thing about Hatful Of Hollow was the availability, on a decent medium, of the radio session takes. That was pretty ground-breaking in analogue days when the only way to preserve these gems was to record them directly on to cassette off a shîtey Radio 1 broadcast. I still haven’t heard a clean version of Dexys’ Radio 1 live show from Liverpool, broadcast on the evening of March 16 1983. I took a cheap, beaten-up tranny (relax, donsdaft - it was a radio) to Pittodrie with me, but found myself concentrating on our beating of Bayern Munich, which was a tad more important. Rough Trade led the way in them days.
Sad news about Andy Rourke.
An excellent basis and by all accounts one of the good ones.
RIP
