Kielder reservoir is the largest man made lake in Europe that holds approximately 200 Billion litres of water yet we as a great industrial building country can’t work out a system to channel some of this water further south?

Does the Southern loving Tory government fancy coming up north and investing in a system that could well help alleviate drought stricken areas are just keep pumping the likes of 4.3Billion pounds of the taxpayers money into another ‘desperately’ needed subway line?

To be fair Brin I don't thing the Tory government loves anyone at present , in fact they seem to hate everyone including themselves given what's getting played out in the leadership contest .

The country won't vote for public ownership that's the reality .

The only ticket you can stand on in my opinion is for more robust regulation and even that's difficult to turn in to votes .

The only way a Labour Party will get elected is if it can prove to the electorate it's better at capitalism than the Tories .

They certainly won't finance a piped system. Even if they did the environmental protests would slow the project right down (as seen with HS2)

What they will do though is increase the amounts water companies can take from rivers. This stategy of course has its own problems because river levels will drop. Cue the same environmental protestors

The problem at least in my opinion is not the fact that many of our essential services are not taken back in to public ownership .

The problem is a lack of investment , investment would include anything from improving infrastructure , efficiency and investing in its work force .

The lack of investment simply comes from the fact that paying shareholders huge dividends is the main show in town .

As you have alluded to most of our essential services are owned by companies from overseas and in some cases overseas governments .

Why would they care about the quality and efficiency of UK railways or our water when the only reason they are involved is to extract as much profit out of our services as they can ? , they aren't the ones living with the consequences of that .
