Thread: Stevie Hammell gets the job

Alexander did no worse than the majority of Motherwell managers and better than a fair few. His time was obviously up but let's not make out the whole tenure was a total disaster when it clearly wasn't.

Time will tell if it’s a good, bad or indifferent appointment. Regardless of whom was selected it can’t, just can’t, be any worse than the drivel of GA’s last 7 months at the helm hopefully!! Good luck Stevie 👍

Fitba' fans are eternal optimists, especially when each new season comes around, but realistically Motherwell is an average-sized provincial club with a moderate support, but is well-run and stable. Given that, we should be in and around the bottom half of the SPL each year. It's actually a miracle that we haven't been relegated (despite some close calls) since the 80's.

Hopefully Steve Hammell can at least settle things down (with a couple of key signings) and we can avoid the dreaded 10th/11th/12th battle. All we can do is to give him and the team all the support we can.

My guess would be he'd have been a lot more expensive to sack at the end of last season. He'd have met most, if not all of his targets the club had set him at that point. Getting papped out of Europe after a poor pre-season and the fans having turned almost 100% against him likely gave us more bargaining power.

If my info is correct in something like 20+games under Alexander we never led a game at half time and won. Hammell has done it twice in three games, the 6 points we have under him is as nearly has many as Alexander took from January to end of April last season. Players definitely look as if the are prepared to go the extra mile for Stevie. Long May it continue COYW
