I'm struggling to cope with all the positive news about the club recently, someone call me an ambulance!

Almost worth a goal start in any match.

Not if you've been up all night, in that case it is necessary in order to continue the bender

I hear you, man. I’ve recently cut right back on the drink. It’s only taken me 53 years to realise that heavy drinking perhaps isn’t the best idea!

Good for you! I admire that. The drinking culture that is present in the whole world will often lead to people taking it too far, without necessarily becoming alcoholics. They just do not know when to stop or when not to have a drink. If one can control the desire and hold back once in a while, then when you finally do get your drink it tastes even better

Definitely - true for drink and true for some foods. Try not eating red meat for a week and then having a good steak. Heaven!
The drinking culture is strong in the UK and countries colonized by the UK but not so much outside. For example, if you visit someone in the evening here in Brazil it’s certainly not automatic to offer an alcoholic drink as in the UK.
I was born in the Scottish borders and I remember being given those big cut glass tumblers when visiting neighboring farmers with, no joke, a quarter bottle of whisky in! You’d be unlikely to see the bottom of the glass before you left too. In my Dad’s day they’d then all happily jump in their cars and drive home!

It's the same in Denmark, I'd say. It wasn't even that long ago that journalists were forbidden to drink at work. They used to be pissed by noon on a regular Tuesday. Crazy times.

A lot of it has to do with quantities as well. In Italy, they drink more often than we do where I live, but they also drink far less. And they drink slowly. Drinking slowly and small amounts is not particularly popular here
