    The enigma of NUFC

Yesterday I was watching world sport on BBC World and they were talking about CR7. One reporter said “I thought he would sign for Newcastle…” to which the other replied “Oh no, he wouldn’t want to go there”. Even the least informed Nufc supporter knows that he is not the type of player the club is after. How don’t the supposed pundits know this?
It got me thinking is why nufc is so hard to understand? The Ashley reign to now is like chalk and cheese but still the commentators seem utterly clueless as to what goes on at our club. I don’t get it.

Yet look back, not so long to the K.K. era first time round and the Sir Bobby era. World class players would have crawled on their hands and knees to come here. And the commentators and so called pundits were aware of it too.

I think those days won't be too far off returning.

With great irony (not that they would understand it), the mackems have accidentally hit on at least part of it when they claim we say 'you don't understand'.

The further south you go, the less people know-or care-about the North East (and by almost every metric you care to use, that invariably means Newcastle; folk from Sunderland might not like this unpalatable truth but the truth it nevertheless is). Therefore, their views are 'informed' by a mixture of ignorance, caricature, bias and often just making stuff up to suit their agenda.

There's jealousy and bigotry involved too-the south has long looked upon the north with disdain (not denying that's reciprocated, mind)-and they can't understand -and therefore hate-the fact that we can still get over 50,000 watching us despite not winning anything in domestic competition for 67 years...and counting.

Yes, those views are through my black and white, proud-to-be-from-Newcastle eyes...but I don't think I'm far wrong.
