Floating Offshore Production, Storage and Offloading Facility.

They're preferred because they don't need an export pipeline system, just risers to take oil / condensate direct from the wellhead. Product can then be transferred to tankers for shipment to the Scottish mainland. It is ours after all.

Or alternatively sold on the open market to highest bidder and delivered to a refinery anywhere in the world.
Thank for stating what FPSO stands for.

Meaning it has to cross an international border and becomes subject to export tax?

I wonder if this is a good idea. Why not use it for our energy sources?

I worked on three different FPSOs, think they were all Shell, they were ok when they contained a.decent volume of oil.
When they were emptied and the wind got up, most of the POB were seasick !

The most horrible feeling, you have my sympathy. Went shark fishing once off Cornwall. Absolutely hellish, one guy was sick before we got out of the harbour. Wee boat motored for 2 hours to the "fishing grounds". Switches off the engine and we rocked from side to side for 4 hours! Pack lunch of Cornish pasties coffee and biscuits was impossible to eat. 2 hours home. Got off bloody boat and staggered about like a drunk.
Wife not best pleased that visit to Chinese restaurant was a very quiet affair. Never saw a fish and day was a complete write off.

FPSOs are designed to turn into wind or water flow to reduce roll and pitch and are massive ships. I honestly can't see why them being empty would contribute to sea sickness.
