It's an historical tribute to the men who broke their backs and were severely injured doing the incredibly hard work. I'm sure they would be very honoured about the kind gesture to keep the damned thing up.

I'd hope it does stay up Jock, but make a use out of it rather than just leave it to rot as it is..that's no good for anyone pal.

Now the new hotel has been approved into the plans of the 33 and a 3rd speed of the new development on the old Tesco site, this in itself is now a non starter, where as I read earlier that a portion of the regeneration grant £36 million? given to Rotherham Council, was to be used to turn the G & C site into some kind of hotel/visitors centre.

    Can anyone expand on that?

Jock, if they did that, what would the Miners all over S Yorks think? The powers that be closed all the pits and concreted over the pit heads Aswell as all the other hard working men in the Steel works?

I don't think you can deny celebrating one heritage in case you upset another. Doesn't Elsecar Heritage Centre represent some of the Iron and Coal history?

Yes it does, and does it very well

Plus Elsecar heritage is based on fact not a few invented “ facts” like G&C

Also, is Magna still going or is it just a beer festival venue now? Seems a long time ago but we were there on or close to opening day when there were queues to get in (around Easter 2003?).
