I don't think it is a great idea to have the NHS workers at the front of the funeral courtege. Politics already in action.

When I heard King Charles talking about 'my dear mama' and 'my dear papa' are now in 'the flight of angels' I realised how infantile is the attitude of royalty, using the language of the nursery.
To set up a camera to watch people form a 6 mile queue really is like watching paint dry.
Surely, paying respect to the Queen is best left as a private matter.
Is this Diana all over again? Same drink, different bottle.

As bizarre as the reaction to Diana's death was, I'd say that was largely an organic phenomenon rather than media driven. I think it took them by surprise and there was a lot of hostility towards them, the printed press in particular, for obvious reasons.

I can appreciate why people are making a connection with Diana' death. On the surface it is the same thing, but I see a fundamental difference between the two.

Expected response from a disrespectful anti-monarchist who gets most things wrong on the big questions.

I'm not an anti monarchist. Better a monarch than a President and, no question, they earn good money from visitors.
Yes, there is a difference at the root of the responses to Diana and the Queen's death but not in the actual expression of emotion. Some of the public comments have been bizarre e g
'I saw Her Majesty for the last time' (No you didn't, you saw a decorated coffin')
I am amazed at the number of people who have the time and money to undertake such a business as queueing for 6 hours but that's up to them. I suppose the longer you queue the more your respect?

sidders, it must really irritate you seeing people want to pay respects to someone they admired. The thing is you don't have to watch or listen to any of it.
As for the language used, surely a socialist should be more accepting and accept diverse ways of what to call your own parents. Whoops sorry I forgot, that only applies if it is what you think, as a socialist.

There are a lot of world leaders taking more than 6hrs out of their lives, and with not inconsiderable security risks too, that puts your amazement into insignificance.

Was listening to simon Mayo yesterday and his side-kick (sorry, his name has left me) decided to go yesterday. Started queueing at 6.15am and it took 9 hours and a 4.5 mile queue not to mention the extra miles going through Westminster gardens. During that whole time he said there wasn't one complainer, everyone was respectful to each other and remained in high spirits throughout. That's the kind of impact Liz had on the majority of people in this country, I doubt we will see that level of respect again, for any person in the public eye, whether that be royalty, politician or celebrity.

Several posters above making good points although I don't see what being a socialist has to do with my remarks about Charles' infantile language with regard to his dear mama and papa being in the flight of angels. As a teacher of English and an agnostic, I don't consider it to be adult and inclusive. Most young people (under 30) would regard his remarks as risible.
I am not irritated so much as puzzled that so many people are prepared to queue for hours. World leaders have to come to represent their countries, very few are coming I suspect from personal choice.
However I would like to bet that the majority of people in that queue voted Brexit ... because they want to restore GB to what it once was, history and tradition etc.
I could be wrong, of course. It has been known, as in most things I am in the minority. Take the footie team I support, for example.
