Kris Drever ... wonderful talent Ah've had the pleasure o' jammin' wi' ... significance for me of course is the fact his father, Ivan Drever, best known as frontman of Wolfstone ... a band I loved enormously until I had the misfortune of being with a support band still soundchecking as the audience were arriving at the Music Hall ... on account of my 'heroes' soundchecking for a period of time exceeding their fkn gig!

Still tho, if ye want to gauge the skills of Ivan D, get yer hand on pre Wolfstone albums by 'Knowe o' Deil' ... Orkney based band ... best as a duo tho ... and you will get the measure o' Ivan's skills on guitar and ither 'taught strings' ... which will gie ye a wee clue as tae why Kris is so fkn good

Ivan is a good pal of mine from way back Sat afternoon sessions in Kirkwall, Loved Knowe O Deil stuff and still think Orkney Anthem is one of the best songs ever written, I was greatly saddened by the death of Coop few years back. I first saw Kris when he was 14 playing with a guy called Gavin Firth (the chair) at Stromness harbour during the 90s Orkney Folk Fest. And later on at a pals hoose when he picked up my Bouzouki and blew me away. Was at the Music Hall when Wolfstone recorded their live DVD. I'm told there was a wee party down at the Duthie park afterwards Haven't seen Ivan in a while lockdown inat but sure to catch up wi him and Linda soon.

Ah good question you know I'm no really sure. I suppose pop is short for popular( broad audience) but there is not an all embracing definition as it changes all the time. Top O the Pops thats it !! if they've been on TOTPs =Pop band .. Question answered

Pedantically, it doesn’t. Given that there was no year zero when the calendar flipped from BC to AD, the 1980s started on 1 January 1981, ending on 31 December 1990. Ace Of Spades release date was October 1980, ie the last year of the 1970s decade.

I laugh at the lazy journalistic categorisation by ‘decade’. The feckless ****s should just stop it.

Anyway, the acceptable face of Jutery…

Pure pop, if you want to tie yourselves in genre knots.
