The royal anthem of a political union? Nah - it’s the equivalent of Ode to Joy of the EU.
Ahhhh a romantacist. I can respect that, after all the Union of the crowns and the later political Union has done nothing for any of the constituent countries 😂

In Scotland particularly, both enlightenment and Industrial Revolution added to the world not just the UK, both after the Union. Scots were more respected all over the world than ever before. Really worth reading about if you ever have a chance.

Thanks Deeranged. googled 6th verse of national anthem. Refers to a specific group of rebellious Scots and I can't imagine anyone in todays' climate wishing to restore a Catholic Monarchy for Scotland and England. Maybe the SNP are failing to tap into a large group of voters who long for Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Can't they just be happy that not so Bonnie Prince Charlie is now the King?

I'm gonna need to go back over some peoples posts to see if they were being ironic!

I wouldn't trust someone like that.
Wouldn't want them in the trenches with me.

The words may well 'refer to a specific group' but they say 'rebellious Scots' and don't say 'rebellious Jacobites'. That reads as all of us to me.

I personally couldn't care less if the monarch of any country that has a monarch is Catholic, Protestant, Agnostic, Jew or whatever - it's very narrow minded in this day and age to think that religion matters.

Agree about your religion comment but disagree about rebellious Scots. SNP are rebellious Scots in today's context and they represent less than half of Scots. Think rebellious means those who are rebelling not every Scot.

Not sure the SNP can be classed as 'rebellious Scots'. They're a democratically elected government representing (albeit in in coalition with morons) the majority feeling of a nation.

Is it really rebellious to want what's rightfully yours.

Was thinking more that they are rebelling against the status quo. Democracy led rebellions are almost the norm. At the last Scottish election more people voted for parties that supported the Union than voted for the Green/SNP ticket.
