If I understood Southgate correctly, it is ability that counts, not form and playing regularly for your club. He rates Maguire’s ability to the extent of England not standing a chance in the World Cup without Maguire.
I don’t think too many would agree with him. Tarks in one of several who are in form, playing in the first team regularly and have more ability.
