Alfie ,plenty of Air raid shelters here .New buildings are now built with a room added (for use as an air-raid shelter) like the boy scouts motto ,''Be prepared.''

I would suggest the opposite Alfie, just conern yourself with trivia like sport. In the long run, we're all dead, it's a matter of when not if, so why bother about it ?

It is almost a rite of passage as we grandparents look at the world and worry how our grandchildren will cope as we look at the possible future and compare it with our past.

The fact is that each generation lives in and copes with the world as they know it. I look back at the slums and living conditions in Burnley, still there in the early 20th century. I wonder how on earth people were able to live in such conditions.

I look forward at the threat of nuclear war, the sh*t show that is Britain, the hurt and pain caused to developing children by social media and fear for my grandchild. But she will cope as we coped with our world and previous generations coped with theirs.

The point is not to minimise the threats and challenges that they will face, but to say “hope springs eternal”.
