The danger now is that Putin is a cornered rat, there is no exit strategy for him without being shown to have been defeated and I don’t thing that he will contemplate that. I can only see one way that he can get out of this and live out the rest of his life in comfort, that is if a country like China offers him asylum and gets him out before some less friendly folk put an end to him, one way or another. So, would he use nukes? Yes, I think he would because he would never admit defeat. Hopefully, some parts of the Russian military will see sense and self preservation and flush the little piece of sh!t down the toilet.

Most nuclear Intercontinental ballistic missiles are long range and so from time of prepared launch to actual launch leaves signatures on the ground which are tightly monitored. The nuclear payload is kept securely from the rest of the stages of the preparedness, again which takes time and can be detected by satellites high above.
That is why saber rattling is one thing, where as going to deployment (even if only a drill)is completely different.
In the past, both sides had agreements in place to notify each other when going to testing the systems.
But not now. Most of the war heads are known and this is why the US can say (Confidently) that they see no processes of deployment.
If that changes then the west has capable ABMs in its arsenal. So speed would be of the essence in such a situation.
You can be sure it will be made public, should it arise.
An interception is not without risks as this would/could mean plutonium been spread over a wide area, rather then one city..

I see that India abstained on a UN motion condemning Russian annexation of those areas of Ukraine; the Indians should be told in no uncertain terms that sitting on the fence on this crisis is unacceptable. What a slimy toad that Indian PM/president is.

The key is getting countries like China and India on side. Putin will not listen to the West and seems hellbent on destruction . But if China and India started to go against him ... rather than sitting on the fence or being passive supporters ... then he would be cornered and his demise would follow very quickly. Am surprised we are not putting sanctions on China and India.

But while these countries .... and there are others but no-one listens to North Korea, Syria, Iran and Belarus .... sit on the fence the war will continue. It’s time to decide which side of history you want to be on ...

Totally agree! The Chinese economy is struggling so would try and get them on side! I would scrap all foreign aid to India and do away with the Non Dom status for Indians ( Mrs Sunak ) for example who loves her country but loves our tax haven even more to line her filthy pockets! The fact that India is also buying cheap Russian gas makes you vomit as they need to decide which side they are on!

Isn't the Donbas area of Ukraine rich in natural resources used for making microchips, also conveniently coastal giving control of the ports, surely that's what he wants to leverage the economic power of Russia. He has to be stopped because he won't stop there will he.

I think around 2010, Ukraine commissioned Chezron and others to explore for oil and gas in the Dombas region and also off shore Crimea as well. Major gas fields were found in both regions to such an extent that the Ukrainian Government received (I believe) large upfront payments from oil companies to begin exploring and developing the infrastructure to get the energy out of the ground and into the European market.
It was not coincidence that within a year of the exploration work been announced, that the Russians invaded. The two regions that have huge potential to be in competition with Russia.
Most likely Russia decided that there wasn't room enough for two gas station in Europe.
