Six members of Israel's triathlon team were supposed to take part in the Asian Cup competition in Jordan this weekend, but were denied entry to the country.
"It is what it is," claimed Jordanian authorities, despite the peace agreement between Jerusalem and Amman.

The intervention of Israeli officials, including from the Culture and Sports Ministry, was not enough to get the athletes into Jordan, causing them to miss a very important competition.

“I and the team members signed up for the competition, but as soon as the list of participants was published, we saw that we were not in,” said 21-year-old Itamar Levanon, a member of the Israeli team.

“The argument we were given for not being on the list was simply ‘you are Israelis,’”

We are surrounded by 'em! What else can we do? Otherwise perhaps Israeli swimmers could I suppose race against dolphins??

( Anyway in the water I have ,as yet. never seem one ,with his towel on his head I think the issue may be over 'confidence building?'

What sickens me, in addition to the blatant anti-semitism, is that, somehow, if the media reports the incident, it will be Israel’s fault.

It is one thing to be surrounded, it is another to be frequently provoked and/or ostracised by your neighbours.

Do many Jordanians live and work in Israel? Do they have a better standard of living than in Jordan? Are they allowed religious freedom in Israel? I know that in the case of Palestinians, the answer is “yes” to all those questions.

Last time I was in Amman I went to see the largest of the Palestinian refugee camps, with an influx of refugees from four regional wars in just 70 years and a lack of water and other resources, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and its people face many challenges.

Millions of refugees from different conflicts currently live in Jordan. The country has more than two million Palestinian refugees registered with UNRWA, and about 655,000 Syrian refugees of Palestinian origin registered with UNHCR.

I'm amazed the Israeli athletes had the audacity to even turn up. Perhaps if they could oppose the IDF constantly bombing the incarcerated civilian population of Gaza they might get the chance to compete next time.

I still don't understand why Israelis want to play games in countries like Jordan, just interact with civilisation and leave Jordan to play games with Iran, see where that gets them.
