    Gerrard v Marsch handbags.

I agree with JM that Villa's tactical game plan does incorporate a time-wasting at any given opportunity as Pep hinted at when City struggled against Villa's stifling slow motion spoiler tactical game before the enforced schedule breaks.

I also agree that it's not fair on the public to pay & see such dire rubbish. It also puts pressure on all officials to act upon which they clearly didn't/don't in general.
Yes Gerrard is under pressure to keep his job but in truth does he deserve it serving that game plan dish up every week ?
Villa fans certainly don't want it for sure.

Not sure that style of football is what the Villa owners would want from their club either & the Managers demeanour doesn't help in projecting their club forward in a positive way either. Few clubs around them in the Midlands as competition for future bums on seats - Wolves acted yesterday and fired the Coach & Bruce at WBA under the cosh now, so yes I'm in favour of JM's fair comment considering its whole context upon football.

Got home late last night and watched some of the game.

Good to know that Stevie learned well from his hero Big Sam. Aston Villa fans deserve to watch that stuff. Afterwards they can go down and watch the Tesco trucks unload. Some thrilling stuff for them.

On a more serious note I do believe that the EPL is not above "putting their thumb on the scale" to influence the outcome of certain games and team position on the table. Some of the VAR calls and officiating assignments are baffling unless you look at them from that perspective.

However, If there was ever a team that needs to have some really bad officials and some really bad timing on the match scheduling this is one of them. It's boring stuff every game and TV and fans pay huge money for entertaining football. Every villa match this year is going to be tedious and boring. Even to their own fans.

The league, the refs, UEFA and FIFA can do something about under the existing rules they are just too lax - cynics might say that they and the media companies that pay then so much like the controversy!

Today's report in the UK's The Guardian states.

“I’m frustrated,” said Gerrard. “We’ve got the quality but we need our big players to step up in big moments.”

Well, if he is referring to Coutinho hitting the post with that weird dodgy connection with the ball he hit past Spider Man then Heaven help us fans if that's classed as 'quality' & a 'big moment'.

Just looked up the meaning of Gerrard - German origin - Hard/Bold spear more recently translates to 'Boring Barsteward'
