    45% Tax Reverse.

I’m amazed at the clout I carry politically.

I only emailed my MP yesterday evening to tell him that he was losing my vote due to the stupidity of this tax decision.

Joking apart, I’ll bet the MP’s are fed up with dealing with the mountain of correspondence that this has caused.

No I sent my email on 30th September at 1233 so they are listening to me not you.

That said does show that we need to make our representatives listen to us by contacting them.

No good saying they don’t understand the real world if we then don’t help them to do so. Unfortunately the press/tv are so pathetic in this country so few of them ask the right questions or make the right sort of challenge. They are letting us down as much as the politicians themselves.

    The media are abysmal.

The spend weeks sticking the boot in on any subject and when a U turn is made they then goad the Minister and PM with the “are you going to resign minister” question!

I’m talking about this in regards to ALL politicians and not just our present government.

The TV media are actually a big part of the problem, constantly stirring things up.

Apart from Andrew Neil I don’t think there’s a serious political interviewer left these days.

    Totally agree Mick.

I was reading a paper put together maybe 10 years ago about Western democracy and how long could it survive.

The American author who’s name escapes me argued that Western democracy could only survive going forward with a fully free, functioning and unbiased press who would help the population understand complex issues so that they could make better judgements that would ensure better democratic decisions, perpetuating the democratic progress going forward.

No wonder it feels like Western democracy, not only in this country, is ultimately bound to move towards more and more populist policies driven by alternative communication methods such as social media and the like because the main traditional information streams are letting us all down so badly.
