It's so simple to fix..Just do what they do in Superleague and stop the clock everything there is an injury or a substitution..So simple to implement that the goons in charge won't use it.

I believe Arson Wenger is a big advocate of clocking out of play. It’s no doubt spoiling the enjoyment of fans and pisses me off for sure. Refs seem to be clamping down on some but not all “fake” dives and the triple or quadruple rollover by a tackled player appears to be getting less attention by refs. I believe a stop watch official should be tried. Include all substitutions, kicking the ball away, throw ins and free kicks, corners. If the ball isn’t in play the watch is stopped. Simples.

Sounds good in theory but think the problem is rugby is a game with pauses in the play whether league or union so you can do that more easily.

Football is supposed to be more fluid and keep the ball in play for longer so I think it is as much about keeping the pace of the game going and stopping it being disrupted as it is about ensuring wasted time is captured.

Read an article years ago about The Rugby World Cup (Union). Average time the ball was actually in play was about 48 minutes per game.

I like my NFL and like the way it works there, out of bounds, incomplete pass and the clock gets stopped. People complain the game is too long but I really enjoy it.

If the clock was stopped in football, how long would the average game be?

Take our up and coming match against Liverpool, late kick off, what time would the game finish, so there are other matters to be considers, i.e kick off times

Used to be last ten minutes if in front to park the bus and nearly all teams did it which was fair and bad look just the same.
But now wasting time from the start any time they can is not only a bad look but fools look on the thousands that spend their hard owned to go watch this crap.
In this modern game where millions are spent for so-called top talent how on earth can this be happening in the so-called best leagues in the world?

The weird thing with all that is in football and the VAR which some times takes between 3 to 4 minutes to work it out the stupid clock still runs lol

Valid points Fred for match travelling fans - appreciate your comments & great to hear from you.

Leeds fans & Official reps have expressed their anger on many occasions to the relevant authorities reguarding match dates & times changed for Sky tv - sadly a regular event nowadays for those who travel by ferry, bus, train & air with many also pre-booking their accomodation & time off work for the original date of the purchased* match ticket, some eventually losing out big time financially.

Saturday 3pm & midweek 8pm is what most would ask for & Sky can bugger off regarding kick offs on Sundays, Mondays & Fridays for most travelling home & away Leeds fans i regularly keep contact with !

Is it fair play/respectful that PL allow Brighton to cancel a game against Palace because of the UK train strikes but then allow Sky to re-schedule our trip to Liverpool game for TV when realistically there isn’t any time-table trains running back home for our fans ?

Match times of 90 mins plus may create Tv scheduled issues but compared with the fact that Leeds travelling fans are regularly locked in at away stadiums for up to 30 minutes AFTER the match has finished for safe escort back to transport facilities all adds to the whole matchday timing planning nightmares of arriving & departing let alone added cost adjustments for rearranged fixtures. So yep a lot to consider for sure.

Fact is Fred, that most travelling Leeds fans i know mainly under age 35 age group from UK & Ireland 'would' accept 'longer match times' IF played at sensible times on original sheduled dates.

Can't comment for all subscription paying Tv fans opinions on watching possible longer matches as living in France i'll grab any minutes gladly to watch Leeds on Tv as I'm sure you would wherever you live.

It sometimes feels like fans who attend games are seen or in any event treated like an unfortunate inconvenience by the authorities, clubs and media channels however much the clubs and media profess to ‘love the atmosphere’ at live games.

Actually money does not wag the dog every time. Generally, power wags the dog. Money is a way of monetizing that power. The insidious thing about the government and big tech takeover of our lives is that they don't even need money anymore to control you. Just "cancel" you, prosecute you or in the case of our autocratic friends such as the chinese just weld you into your apartment (for your safety).

The reality is that many things such as football are not necessary to live. If you get tired of the time wasting or VAR you'll just stop watching. You can see it happening in other sports here across the pond. Half empty venues, Declining TV veiwership and a general lack of interest. We have a "pro basketball team" here in Indy. I've not been to a game in 5 years, not watched a game for years and can't even tell you who's on the team or whether we are any good. However, I do get to pay an extra 1% on any restaurant, hotel or entertainment bill I ring up in the Indy area. Wish they'd move elsewhere. I think one of the key things that keep them relevant at all is the sports gambling that they've just allowed in many places in the US. It's become the lifeblood for these pro teams.

Football will adjust when the their cash cow is threatened. However, no offense on my Brit Friends but you'all see to gamble on anything. Coin tosses, shoe colors, first foul, first throw in Etc. Not sure that's affected that much by time wasting!

Well Spaldy, which teams players including Vieira or Marsch would you guess for who'll get the first yellow card ?

Lot of firework history on the touch-lines of matches between these Coaches.

As a pitch side spectator Its nerve tingling at Crystal Palace when that tumultuous pomp-music of 1960's The Dave Clark Five’s Glad All Over comes over the PA system & all Palace fans stand up singing, lifting arms and clapping on the punch line of ‘And I’m feeling,’ (clap, clap) ‘Glad all over…' booming out.
As London clubs go (including Millwall) Palace have the loudest, most impassioned 'fair' support & when Leeds visit it's a constant vocal competition around the stands - so an interesting afternoon for the media, camera crews & those London press luvvies for sure on & off the pitch !

Not a gambler but Cooper will be the first yellow, me thinks.

Anyway back to my desk to earn my crust !
