2022 World Cup PL - Table after fixtures of 9/12/22.

Please check (and, errr, let me know, like!) for any errors and/or omissions.

    Table is in format:- poster/previous total/daily score/new total/status.

Penalties were the order of the day, with a lacklustre Brazil (mostly) unable to convert from twelve yards out against a dogged Croatia side, before Aston Villa eventually managing to hold their nerve despite an admirable comeback by Burnley in the Battle of Claret and Blues (17 yellow cards!). Or something like that. If the semifinal goes the same way, the WC might not be finished before Santa sets out to empty his sack down the World's chimneys.

Ralgex Rovers (EOxx) picked up half of the available 18 points through perfection in Game 57. I'm sure even Robert is wondering how that happened and is working out a way to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

Dalek_Sec (OOxx), Ozleeds (OOxx), Peter T (OOxx) and Hastings' Steve (xOOx) scored half a dozen points. Peter T and Steve have Dutch and Croatian connections respectively, which may explain how they did better than the rest of us: Steve was the only poster collecting anything from Game 58.

Beautles steals a yard (a foot is one point) back over Chezzer, with Dusty Bin lurking a little closer in the shadows, just six points off of the lead.

There are still 6 games (54 potential points) to go...

    The results

Game 57: The Netherlands v Argentina (2-2) Argentina progress
Game 58: Croatia v Brazil (0-0) Croatia progress

The fixtures for this competition have all been posted (teams for the knock-out stages will be duly updated as they become known).

    All the best! Stay safe!

    What he said!

I was on the fence about the somewhat meaningless 3rd place game, but I guess a few of the last Group games weren’t so very different?

The Three Lions exit on, errrr, penalties and, in a similar vein, a different sort of feline is probably still sobbing uncontrollably in the Portuguese locker room. Apparently, it isn't all about him after all?

Deklufc (OOOO), Monaco_Totty (OOOO), Ozleeds (OOOO) and Spaldy (OOOO) were dispassionate enough (three of them definitely aren't based in the U.K.) to make sensible predictions, with each collecting a dozen points from winning scorelines for both Morocco and France. You take your chances, or you go home. All very Spursy.

Alfinyalcabo (EOxx) and Peter T (EOxx) (neither based in the U.K.: can you see a pattern?) scored their nine points via the exact 2-1 win for Les Bleus over Les Big Girls' Blouses. Kane you believe it?

The only tweak at the top of the board is Oranje White has lifted himself up to join Dusty Bin in a share of the third spot.

There are now just 4 games (36 potential points) to go...

Game 59: England v France (1-2) France progress
Game 60: Morocco v Portugal (1-0) Morocco progress

A fairly straightforward affair: Argentina wiped away the Dishcloths. I would've said they were the classier team, but they well and truly blotted that particular copybook in the previous round.

UbiqueLUFC33 (EO) was the only perfect predictor on the day, picking up the full nine points by correctly choosing the comfortable 3-0 scoreline that puts Argentina into the final on Sunday. Messi, not messy.

A generic win for Argentina would've garnered you six points. Well done to Alf (Garner), Billy, Calvers, Chezzer, Dusty, Spiked Tea, Nasty, The Tottster, Orgs, Ozwhites, Silentman and Stompy. A (daily) runners-up medal.

Beautles built her house of cards on Croatia, which was blown away, allowing Chezzer to leapfrog her and her new room mate, Dusty Bin, by three points. The foursome of Calvers, Oranje, Peter and Ralph lurk another six points back in a share of the fourth spot.

There are now just 3 games (27 potential points) to go...

    The result

Game 61: Argentina v Croatia (3-0) Argentina progress

In case I forget in the tsunami of excitement as Morocco win the World Cup, thank you very much for the considerable time and effort you have put into setting up and running this. It has made the whole event more interesting and enjoyable.

An entertaining game that certainly wasn't a foregone conclusion until the second goal went in and, even then, there was some bouncing around in the French box that could've made the last few minutes rather tasty. Morocco can justifiably be proud of their lions' contribution to this World Cup. Did you see what I did there? Oh, please yourselves. Which most of you do. All day long. Probably.

Orgoner, Ozwhites and Spaldy were today's perfect predictors, picking up the full nine points by correctly choosing the 2-0 scoreline that will pit France against Argentina this coming Sunday. Dark blue versus light blue. Which shade will prevail?!

A generic win for France scored six points. Well done to Alf, Bearing, Beautles, Calvers, Dusty, Spiked Tea, Nasty, The Tottster, Oranje, Peter, Ralgex, Sniffer and Ubique. Sharif might not like it, but you lot rocked the PL kasbah.

The (slight) slip by Chezzer means that Beautles and Dalek are back level with him again and, with just two games remaining, I really hope that I won't have to do extra homework in order to determine the eventual winner. They're not out of it yet, but Calvers, Oranje and Peter will need to make up six points to be in with a fighting chance of winning the solid glod WC PL title. *

There are now just 2 games (18 potential points) to go...

    The result

Game 62: France v Morocco (2-0) France progress

The final pair of fixtures for this competition have been posted.

    * Glod is apparently very much like plastic. And not the good recyclable kind. Cheap as.

That was certainly not the worst "meaningless" third place game you'll ever see and credit must go to both teams for taking it somewhat seriously. In general, the predictions here tended to favour Morocco and ten posters were equally split between either a 1-2 or a 2-1 scoreline. Did you go the right way?

Beautles, Robo-Nasty, The Tottster, Silentman and Spaldy picked up the full nine points by putting their 2-1 the right way around. Will we get to see Modric grace a major championship again? I hope so!

A generic win for Croatia scored six points. Well done to Dalek and Sniffer. Croatians, not cretins (apologies if I've used that already).

Beautles reclaims sole ownership of the top spot heading into the final (and Final) game. Dalek is just three points behind and Chezzer or The Tottster might still be able to pull off a last gasp come-from-behind victory if the stars (i.e. Messi and Mbappe) and competition rules align for them tomorrow (I've not checked the latter as of now). The rest of us are, well, just the rest of us at this juncture.

There is now just 1 game (9 potential points) to go...

    The result

Game 63: Croatia v Morocco (2-1) Croatia finish third

The final fixture for this competition has been posted.

    All the best! Stay safe!
