Qatar were perhaps more than extremely lucky not to be a goal down within the first five minutes, but their heat stroked camel in the headlights approach proved to be no match for Ecuador, and for Enner Valencia in particular.

Billyni (E), CalverleyBoy (E), Dalek_Sec (E), Monaco_Totty (E) and Spaldy (E) all started their campaigns off perfectly with the exact 0-2 scoreline. I would've joined them, but I made the rookie mistake of taking the time to read up on the teams before switching to a 0-0 draw. What was I thinking?! Why was I thinking?!

Beautles (O), Cherrypie7 (O), DD Spiked Tea (O), MORRIM (O), Oranje White (O), Ralph (O), Silentman (O), Sniffer999 (O), Tichi1 (O), UbiqueLUFC33 (O) and Whitestomper45 (O) all picked a generic win for Ecuador. Good start! Have yourselves a yummy can of Bud Zero to celebrate!

Obviously, the table is entirely predictable after one game, but where will you be after sixty-four of the damn things?!

A couple of very strange games (I didn't see Senegal v Netherlands, so I can't comment on that one), but with (mostly) predictable outcomes?

Dalek_Sec (EOE), Cherrypie7 (EOE), MORRIM (EOE) and Orgoner (EOE) were the daily top scorers, only missing out on perfection because of the bonkers efforts of England and Iran. The closest anyone got to 6-2 was the 5-0 prediction put in by Mozzer, so if there were a solo tipster of the day out of this gang of four, I guess he'd be it?!

Bearing (OOE) and Deklufc (OOE) picked up twelve points with two outcomes and one correct scoreline. More solid than Southgate's "defensive" efforts. Doesn't bode well...

Dalek takes an early lead at the top of the table, with Chezzer and Mozzer tucking in three points behind. There are still sixty games to go mind...

I only ended up getting to see the full Argentina v Saudi Arabia game (probably the most "interesting" of the bunch anyway?), but it's clear that the French are up and running and I guess Messi and chums will take some comfort in the fact that Denmark and Tunisia couldn't score?

Sniffer999 (OEOx) was the daily top scorer with a dozen points, only missing out (along with everyone else!) in the completely unexpected, but thoroughly deserved, Saudi victory. Bielsa-esque defending (not entirely unlike like the Malvinas?) didn't help, although the second Saudi goal was very, very well taken. Very.

Deklufc (OxEx), Orgoner (OxEx) and Ralph (ExO) collected nine points. Ralph was the only poster to nail the Les Bleus v Socceroos scoreline. Wallaby? Zero points for Australia, that's what...

Dalek remains top of the pile, with Chezzer, Mozzer and * cough * Orgoner three points behind. There are still fifty-six games to go mind...

I'm guessing that Qatar can't always be as hot as everyone had been making out: the Germans certainly found it to be more than a bit nippy today.

I still haven't worked out how he managed to do it, but Oranje White (OOEO) took points from all four games, including Japan's 2-1 victory over the Germans. Awesome effort! I'm sure no one on here will be upset he got that one bang on the money (I even double-checked the date stamp to confirm that it was genuine)!

Joellufcprice (OOxE) and Ozwhites (OOxE) weren't as prescient in the "Axis" game, but they did select a 0-0 draw in the earliest Group F match.

Dalek now shares the overall lead with Chezzer. They are closely followed by MORRIM, Oranje, Orgoner and Ralph. There are still fifty-two games to go mind...

Portugal never Ghana give it up (although they did try) and the ***y samba steamroller that is Brazil showed a few of the other supposedly favoured teams how to do it against a bruising opposition that parked tanks and not just buses. All with Charles Charley Richarlison as their unlikely hero.

Raphinha looked classy until he had to take any form of shot. You can take the boy out of Leeds but...

NJ's finest (and only) entrant, Cherrypie7 (EOOE) was the poster du Jour, picking up 18 points using all four games, including the exact scores for the first and last fixtures. Jersey sure? Fuggedabaadit!

Ozwhites (EOOO) and Sniffer999 (xEOE) scored 15 points on the day, which is never too shabby when there are only 24 points available to be won. Up the table they both go!

Chezzer's superpredicting efforts have pushed him into sole pole position, a full nine points ahead of Dusty Bin and Sniffer999. There are still forty-eight games to go mind...

Ralgex Rovers' (xEEx) afternoon OAP trip to The Green Man obviously paid off with twelve points scored before a Southgate-induced afternoon sad nap taken in the company of like-minded elderly day drinkers. I suspect some muttering and harrumphing in the general direction of a nearby widescreen tv might also have been involved?

Six points out of twenty-four is hardly a spectacular effort (much like the Home Countries' respective performances), but well done to Billyni (xOxO), Cherrypie7 (xExx), DD (Spiked Tea) (xxOO), Hopelesslyoptimistic (xExx), Oranje White (xOxO), Ozleeds ((OxxO), Ralph (OOxx) and Whitestomper45 (xOOx). Let's hope the football is better tomorrow though, eh?

A decent scoring day for many, especially if you happened to have chosen the bigger fish from the bigger ponds.

Beautles (EOOE) and Tichi1 (EEOO) definitely seem to have their heads in the game (rather than the sand), scoring 18 points out of the 24 available. I may not hear the end of this from one of them...

Hopelesslyoptimistic (xEEO), Peter T (ExEO) and Steve (Hastings) (xEOE) only used three of the four-legged fixtures to pick up their 15 points. Much like Jessie as she recovers from her knee surgery earlier today.
