Quite enjoyed the games today, even if they didn't really go my way in this stupid competition (glares at Pen err nandez). No change there then (doesn't play well with others, unless he's winning)...

It really pains me to say this, but Beautles (OOOO) and Peter T (xOOE) scored 12 points. Hopefully they won't be looking at the table and pointing. I bet they will though (see above).

Dalek has leapfrogged (not that they were playing) three points over Chezzer (possibly down to a DNS error?) with Oranje White, Ozwhites and Ralph a further three points behind in a share of third. There are still thirty-two games to go mind...

With Fair Play Points almost needed to separate Poland and Mexico, Messi missing a penalty (although he does have "previous" on that score), France deciding to field their "B" team and, well, Denmark not bothering to field any team whatsoever, navigation of daily entries proved to be quite a challenge.

That said, Beautles (OxEO) and Billyni (xxEE) scored 12 points out of the 24 available. I'm not sure how the latter chose his set, but it's blindingly obvious that I'm not "helping" the former. I strongly suspect witchcraft?!

Alf (xxOE), Bearing (OxxE), DD Spiked Tea (xxOE), Ralph (xxEO) and Spaldy (xxOE) all relied on Group C to collect their 9 points. Group D was a disaster zone.

Beautles and Dalek share the top spot, with Chezzer slipping to join Ralph, three points behind in equal third. There are still twenty-four games to go mind...

Mental. Just mental. Perhaps it came as no huge surprise that the in-fighting Belgians went home in a sulky hissy fit, but for a while it was possible that both Spain and Germany could also be packing their bags, only for Germany to eventually do the tedious tippy tappers a huge favour by scoring a couple of otherwise meaningless goals against Costa Rica. Good effort by the Ticos though?

Belligerent (over) Bearing (OExO) and everyone's favourite second string LeedsMad competition overlord, CalverleyBoy (OExO), did exceptionally well, scoring 12 points out of the 24 available. Both showed no faith in Belgium, the exact amount of faith in Morocco and, well, joined all of the active posters in lazily picking up at least three from the barely efficient, and ultimately incompetent, German win. Auf Weidersehen, pests!

Alf (xExO), Cherrypie7 (OOxO), Monaco_Totty (OOxO), Ralph (OOxO), Sniffer999 (xExO) and Spaldy (xExO) scooped up a creditable 9 points. Did I say the games today were a bit mental? Mental like a rabid woodchuck on acid. No woodchucks were harmed in the construction of that last sentence.

Chezzer, Dusty Bin and Ralph restake their claim for the overall title as Beautles slips to three points behind them. There are still twenty games to go mind...

Two of the teams clearly felt comfortable enough in their destinies to rotate their squads to the point where sensible predictions weren't remotely sensible and a couple of others went all grumpy drawers when their lame efforts on the field simply weren't good enough for them to progress to the knock-out stages. I'm looking at you, Uruguay.

Beautles (ExOx) was the only "properly active" poster (Hgatenasty (xExO) has put in blanket 2-1 predictions up to now) to score 9 points out of the 24 available. A very good haul indeed considering that few around her at the sharp end of the table collected anything whatsoever. Could she go on and win this thing without having seen a single ball kicked in anger? Maybe!

Deklufc (xxEx), MORRIM (Exxx), Orgoner (Exxx), Ozleeds (OOxx), Silentman (Exxx) and Whitestomper45 (OxOx) joined our other lazy entrant, Hastings' Steve (xOxO) - he has 2-0 scores down for every game - in picking up half a dozen points. Proof, if ever it were needed, that not knowing what you're doing isn't always a problem. Jesse knows.

The big fish saw off the little fish and Matt Ryan should have some sleepless nights over that second gift of a Uruguayan goal. In the first match, the Netherlands still don't look that special to me, although I guess they did take their chances, whereas the US did not. It's a simple game: score more and you win.

Alfinyalcabo (OOEO), Hopelesslyoptimistic (EOOO) and Sniffer999 (OOEO) joined one of yesterday's top Robotipsters, Hgatenasty (OOEO), scoring 15 points out of the (now) 18 available. A little tweaking by some and they could've had a perfect day at the PL office. Nooooice!

Simply choosing the more fancied teams to win would've got you an "easy" (OOOO) dozen. Well done to Bearing, Beautles, CalverleyBoy, Cherrypie7, DD Spiked Tea, Monaco_Totty, MORRIM, Steve (Hastings "Robo" variety), Tichi1, UbiqueLUFC33 and Whitestomper45. You may need to work harder in some of the remaining fixtures?

The round of 16 is typically the easiest set of fixtures to predict simply down to the seeding exiting from the group stages and today was another to stick with the more successful Group competitors. I would've been perfect had I swapped my guesses around, but coulda, shoulda, woulda counts for diddly, even if you're in charge of updating the table.

MORRIM (EOOO), Sniffer999 (OOEO), Spaldy (OOEO) and UbiqueLUFC33 (EOOO) scored 15 points out of the 18 available. England v France may be more of a challenge though?!

With every other active poster justifiably expecting a French victory, any England win that skirted the exact score collected a dozen points. All bar one thought Brazil would win at a canter and stroll into the quarter finals, but scores and outcomes ran the whole gamut for the earlier fixture between Japan and The Dishcloths, where a set of thoroughly incompetent spot kicks made The Samurai Blue. Brazil might want to ensure that their next game with Croatia doesn't go to penalties? Just saying.

Bearing (EOOO), Oranje White (EOOO) and Silentman (EOOO) collected 15 points by selecting Croatia to emerge as the victors following their 1-1 draw with Japan. Bearing didn't gloat as much as expected. Strange.

Orgoner (OOOO), Peter T (ExOO), Ralgex Rovers (ExOO), Tichi1 (ExOO) and UbiqueLUFC33 (OxEO) scored a dozen points. Of these, Ubique was unique (did you see what I did there?) as the only poster with the exact Game 54 scoreline and Tichi might have grabbed another three had he bothered to enter the winners of Game 53. Only he knows.

There was some tightening of the nuts at the top of the board, where Beautles leads Chezzer by three points and Dusty Bin by six. There are still 10 games (90 potential points) to go mind...

So much for practicing taking penalties, eh? Portugal went on to show their annoying Tippy Tappy Iberian cousins how the game should be played (mostly without Ronaldo) and, although 0-0 is hardly unexpected in international football, there were no exact predictions for either fixture on the day.

Cherrypie7 (OxOO) and Oranje White (OxOO) joined "Mr. 2-1", Hgatenasty (xOOO), in picking up 9 of the 18 points via the unfancied draw in Game 55. They then spoiled it by picking Spain to progress. D'Oh!

With one exception, namely Ralgex_Rovers (OOxx), all of our six pointers came from Portugal's emphatic win. Robert ruined the good work he handed in for the first game (Morocco to go through after a draw in regulation) by doubling down on the Swiss pulling off the same cunning stunt against Diet Spain. Sometimes you can be just too contrary for your own good. Contrary. See, there's two of them.

Chezzer's stealth move sees him back at the top of the table with Her Far-Too-Highness, Beautles, with Dusty Bin, Oranje and Ralph 9 points further back in a share of third.
