Well, well, well. it seemed as if Argentina were cruising to an easy victory until the 79', when France decided to "finally" show up and make a game of it. Too bad, as I already had my "He is the Messi-ah and not a very naughty boy" and "Mbappe is mcrappe" jokes lined up (I'm still using them though). It was entertaining (eventually) for the neutral (perhaps more a case of which team did you want to lose more?) and I'm glad that Mbappe didn't miss his penalty and that Messi is now able to seriously annoy Ronaldo. And not the fat one. Well, he's not fat yet.

There were no perfect predictions on the day, but three did score six out of the final nine points. Well done to Bearing (OO), Beautles (Ex) and Ralgex Rovers (Ex). One of the two Roberts (Bearing) was arguably the pick of this trio in picking a draw and an Argie win, but Beautles was wandering around with a smug grin on her face before extra time was needed. More on this later.

A win for Argentina or a draw with a French win scored three points. Alf (xO), Billyni (xO), Deklufc (xO), Nasty (xO), Peter T (xO), Ralph (xO), Silentman (xO), Sniffer (xO), Tichi (xO) and Stompy (xO) took the former route and Orgoner (Ox) took the latter. Points and virtual participation trophies!

Looking at the final table: Beautles ultimately saw off the chasing pack with points to spare, beating second-placed Dalek by nine points (a 2-0 win for France would've made things interesting!) and she was 15 ahead of the third-place spot shared by Cherrypie7 and Monaco_Totty. Excellent efforts by all and, it has to be said, the two girls kicked some serious butt! Ouch!
