These are not shagged out old geezers. In fact one of them is 29 years old. They simply realise that the game is up. At the time of the next General Erection they would lose their seats and it will be an anti-Tory landslide.
I am not surprised that Tory MPs know the result of the next General Election and many will not fight it. But what does surprise me is that 9 have actually openly stated that they will not fight it. This sort of announcement slightly inhibits their chances of totally monetising their MP status in the time between now and the election. An MP known to be definitely on the way out has less value in shady deals, maybe no value. But there is the sum of £250,000 per year in expenses as well as the £84,000 per year salary.
