Is he going to require a few games off when he comes back and has a good run in the team, or will the programme he's on help him make it to end of the season.

Or has he lost his place to someone better?

That's what we want competition for places. TAR has gone from missing in action to the heart of the action.

Can’t remember where I read it, but there was an article saying that wing backs are the main attacking threat at this World Cup (Trippier excepted - he’s had a bit of a shocker so far). Makes sense when you think how most modern coaching is all about trying to engineer chances close and central to the goal by getting crosses in from behind the defence.

It’s the most physically demanding role in the team, obviously, covering the full length of the pitch (if you’re doing it right). But with that comes the danger of burnout, so we need two interchangeable players to handle the workload - they should be alternating the role. We now have that on the right with Nemane and TAR, but need to get backup on the left as Taylor doesn’t seem capable of getting into the box like Chicksen does. Maybe he’ll be sharper after playing at D&R, but wouldn’t bank on it.

Yet, Ghana or maybe Senegal, the goalie had a big bust up with the Manager about playing out from the back, got dropped for the last game & I think sent home.

Even the best teams in the world give up chances playing out from the back when pressed - like Spain against Germany. And then there are the lesser teams like Australia, who conceded against France when they lost the ball near their own goal. Yet despite these risks, it just seems to be the accepted method nowadays. And of course, when it works, it yields a “perfect” team goal.
