    If you thought

Watching Albion under Pulis, Pardew, Bruce was bad, spare a thought for the Hartlepool fans, bottom of Lg 2, watched them today v Stockport, how on earth the Hartlepool players pass for professionals is beyond me, from the first minute mistakes after mistakes, the defending was well below Sunday league standard, game ended in 5-0 home defeat, after the 3rd goal on 60 mins the stadium emptied, all that after the ‘Pool manager Keith Curle signed a new contract.

Legend has it that during the Napoleonic wars, a French ship was wrecked off the coast of Hartlepool. All the crew were drowned and the only survivor was a monkey that was washed ashore. The locals, having never previously seen either a Frenchman or a monkey, took the poor creature to be a French spy and hanged it on the beach. The legend has never been verified as true or false. So, the people of Hartlepool became known as ‘The Monkey Hangers’!

I’ve always thought of “strangling the monkey” meaning something completely different!
