I remember one brilliant night there though in early January 79 when we drew 2-2 in the FA Cup 3rd round.

They gave us the open topped end behind the goal and we packed that whole end, I’d guess we took 15,000 there that night, it was a nightmare trying to get in.

There was more than 38,000 there, I think that was their last ever really big crowd.

They got a late equaliser and we then thrashed them 4-0 in the replay at our place in front of over 36,000.

These were the days before Jeremy decided we were a mid range second division club!

We’d already beaten them 7-1 in the October.......no wonder they wore that brown kit!
We beat them 3-1 in the league there as well. I went to that game, the 7-1, and the 4-0 but missed the 2-2 as I didn't feel well.
We put 16 goals past them in one season.

Thought they had a very long unbroken spell in the first division?

They were formed in 1883 and were originally known as Singers FC. That long spell in the top flight was between 1967 and 2001. Those are the only years they were in the top flight and they've spent the rest of their time bouncing between the divisions.

    Thanks 68.
I knew they were top flight for a long time just didn't realise it was last in 2001.
    Time flies.

Coventry City are to football what British Home Stores were to retail.

It was always there ( until it wasn’t ) and you knew it was there but you never went in and you weren’t sure what it did or why it did what it did as nobody you knew ever had use for it.

They spent a lot of time in the top division but most seasons were a struggle for survival.
Stoke are another club one of the oldest clubs in the world, won about two trophies and up and down more often than Ulrika's knickers.

One League Cup win in 72......that’s your lot.

I used to cover the Potteries in my job, I hated it.

They are the biggest bunch of nasal retards on the planet. Miserable, moaning t w a t s, most of them the result of inter family relations!
