8 yards wide and 8 feet high

Somebody please explain to the so called professional footballers in this World Cup competition ,that the idea of a free uninterrupted shot on goal from 36 feet 0 inches,, is to get the ball past the goalkeeper ,who is supposed to stay on the white line in between the two goalposts, and into the net. The standard is the worst I have ever seen. It’s nothing short of diabolical to say the least., unbelievable, and embarrassing to watch. Ayew of Ghana started it, Japan carried on the trend, now those paella eating Spaniards have carried it to another level. What more can I say ?

I am not kidding you malwayne and God can strike me down dead right now if I'm lying, I missed two penalties in my whole time playing decent level football. And one of those I scored from the rebound off the goalie.

I reckon from about the age of 10 until I was almost fifty I must have scored more than one hundred penalties.

I did not go for the "look in the goalkeeper's eyes" twaddle, I picked my spot usually to the right of the keeper, shoot high or low with all the force I could muster. BOOM! It was past the goalie before he could move.

This fannying about with short run-ups and weak shots is total anathema to me.

Sinkov made me laugh the other day when he said him and his mates used to practice penalties when they were kids. It's all I used to do was practice, practice and fecking practice.

I did say on another thread only a couple of days ago, that most of these idiots must practice missing penalties, not scoring them, and so it continues. It's quite simple really, Graham Alexander and Alan Shearer long ago and Harry Kane more recently could see it clearly, there is an imaginary box, perhaps 3-4 feet either side of the keeper and 3-4 foot high, hit the ball hard, preferably on a rising trajectory, outside of that box and you will score 95% of your penalties. Doing this you can forget about the keeper, place it hard outside of that box and you are taking him out of the equation, he is powerless to stop you scoring. I should have retired from the Fire Service 25 years ago and set myself up as a penalty coach, I'd be retired as a millionaire by now.

It astonishes me that so many footballers still haven't worked this out, and feck about trying to send the keeper the wrong way. If brains were dynamite, they wouldn't have enough to blow their hats off.

Couldn't agree more, BT, lots of them are just trying to be too clever and there is no need for it.
You tell your German friends your experience and they will be impressed. The Germans enjoy a good penalty, especially against England.
Have a good trip, any cheap Porsches over there?
