    Best Guitarist ever

Where to start. My particular favourites .. Obviously would have to start with James Marshall Hendrix never saw him live, one of the most influential guitarists in the history of rock music,

Richard Thompson Superb and a cracking songwriter,

Paul Kossoff from Free one of a kind.

Jeff Beck another one of a kind.

And for being underrated. Frank Zappa.

    Joe Satriani.

A little bit obscure, Guthrie Govan.

Blimey. Loads of obvious(ish) ones - page, hendrix, vai, satriani, e van halen etc etc.

Hendrix of course stands way out on that list.

    Randy Rhodes.

But someone whose rhythm guitar playing goes very unnoticed is David Byrne. And Nick Harper is pretty damn incredible.

Oh so many. Hard to pin point a favourite.

    How could you? FFS.

It’s all so subjective, and there are usually the one-up merchants of cool who’ll find some **** playing in an obscure early 90s load of shoegaze dross to nominate.

    Hubert Sumlin, Steve Cropper.

    Andy Bell of Ride.

Played early 90s shoegaze. Doubt you lot are cool enough to have heard of him, so just take my word for it

Seen them plenty. Great band. Nowhere on any list of greats, but you are taking the mickey.

But your Johnny Marr. He's up there in certain lists of mine.

The thing with these debates, is that it’s impossible to judge. I tend to instantly dismiss the opinions of folk that can actually play the guitar, as they tend to focus more on the work that goes into it, rather than the sound a tune makes. All musicians have a sh1t taste in music. You can’t really judge it on ability, as it comes to the point where it’s no longer guitar playing & more a circus act. A bit like the boys that are dynamite at keepy ups but can’t play football

When you strip it all back, the answer is Jonny Marr. Everyone is free to argue but you’re all wrong and you’d look a bit daft doing so
