Or buy something from the club shop for eg £15…..and use the eg £15 in your wallet off next season”s season ticket…

On the whole a good idea, but I dare say it wont happen very often but still.

At present season ticket holders who can't make a match can pass their ticket on to a relative / friend.
The club doesn't get anything out of that approach unless plenty of cash is spent inside the ground.
At least the new scheme being trialed will put some cash back into the club.

Also can be put into your club wallet and spent on away tickets or Cup games.

You've interpreted the word " can " wrong.
Officially you're not supposed to let someone use your season ticket.
Unofficialy some will be doing so.
There's a lighting system on the turnstiles on entering.
Stewards have been known to pull people to one side to check.
The club are not as naive as some people think.

Just out of interest what does the lighting system show in that respect…?…I thought that was for adult and juvenile scrutiny..

Not prepared to go into detail apart from an example.
A Concession ticket holder passed it onto a younger generation person that doesn't look anywhere near 60.
The bit about stewards pulling people to one side to check is true.
Back in the Millmoor days when Season tickets were a little booklet some fans used to enter and then throw their season ticket over the wall to a mate. ( true.)
Times have changed in a digital way, doesn't mean some people will try to play the system.
