Was in Morrisons yesterday shopping. Always have cheddar slices & Dairylee in the fridge & fancied a change so was stuck with a choice..
Stilton
Danish Blue
Red Leicester.
Chose Danish Blue & water biscuits in the end..was toying with a crusty French stick but only had plain & prefer either poppy seed or tiger.
I was amazed at the choice though, there must have been at least 80 different types in the display.
There are some I’m not keen on like Cheshire & Goats cheese though.
Cheddar cheese is very versatile and not just for toast…
Lasagna, Dauphinoise potatoes, cheese/chicken burgers, chilli, cauliflower/broccoli etc…Dairylee is also lovely on ritz crackers..
There is nothing nicer after a well cooked fillet steak with peppercorn sauce on the side, than cheeseboard as a dessert. A nice selection of local cheeses, crackers and grapes.. the best one I ever had also had apple & pineapple slices to cleanse the pallette.
Alternatively for a healthy option a ploughman’s lunch
You just stick to your HP Sauce 😎
Just this minute I sent a Whatsapp to my close friends saying that after 1 month on my new regime I have found that one thing I cannot live without is cheese. Love all types, favourites goat cheese, wensleydale and danish blue. There is a french cheese that is only available towards the end of the year as the milk is from the cows that are brought down from the alps for winter - Mont d'Or. Yummy
All cheese is the devil's boff, end of,it's the only food that can instantly make me feel ill 🤢
Is there a Cumbrian recommendation?
Not a sheep based one for obvious reasons 😎
Years ago I was a bit of a cheese snob and invariably chose the cheese table for dessert. I was with my family a restaurant in the Hamptons on Long Island which was renowned for its seafood. I requested cheese and after about 10 minutes called the waiter over to enquire what the name of the soft delicately flavour offering - the answer was "that cheese sir is butter". I felt a right pillock
That's a great and funny story cayambe 🤣
I’m lucky enough to live 4 miles from a large cheese factory, the one that makes Lake District cheese as seen in supermarkets. However it also makes other stuff and it’s all sold in the factory shop dirt cheap. A kilo of Red Leicester is £4.45. Cheddar is slightly more and they do strengths up to extra mature and vintage which are sublime. They sometimes do a manager’s special where they sell whatever they have a surplus of dead cheap. Also, if there’s enough demand, they’ll send some cheddar off for smoking and it’s bloody lovely. Their range doesn’t really go beyond that but whatever they sell is ace and dirt cheap.
