    The Big Match Revisited...

I enjoy watching this programme when it's on and featured Cambridge v QPR in League Two,only the highlights of course but it looked a cracking game with top of the league QPR losing 2-1
The ground looks dated now but crowd looked good and no advertising on the shirts, crap burgers, pitches that look like Skeggy beach,no var, proper tackles by proper men who don't roll over in agony if anyone puts there £200 haircut out of place and physios with magic cure all sponges,oh what days, the millenniums don't know what they've missed

Yep i still watch it, the football is vastly superior more exciting.Today, you must keep your shape. which means staying at right back, if your a right back etc. There is no running off the ball, if you do, and are a right back, you will leave a space behind you, so that if possesion is lost, there are open gaps at the back.

In the old days running off the ball was encouraged, and expected, and the game was open and fluid, all game long.

Today its like watching paint dry, tippy tappy nonsense, probing for an opening, or hoping for one is closer to the truth, dribblers and creative players dont make the grade anymore.

At its root, the plague of modern football is fear in the heart of managers, not losing is paramount.

Sean Derry, your mate got sacked yesterday, his mantra to the players was " dont forget to tuck in", which when deciphered means get behind the ball.

In the old days english football prided itself on energy and attack.

Not any more, infected as well by the foreign pox of cheating at every oppurtunity.
