You really want to know? Because what I suppose was an early years sponsor always provided a fish and chips meal after each home match.
Apparently haddock was a particularly popular order but there were all cockneys so it it sounded more like ‘addick’. Strange but true.

There still is a rather splendid chippy on the way from the station to the away end that always makes a visit to the Valley worthwhile, even if the results don't always reciprocate.

But surely yer average cockerknees all wanted a bit of Rock, not the rather more upmarket Haddock?

Why are they called Addicks?

They were originally named after the TV commercials for p***s enlargement, commonly known as dick ads. But Charlton fans swapped syllables so as not to be confused with Leeds fans, i.e. dickheads.

No idea...altogether too southern for me. Thought they all ate jellied eels. Anyway, then they’d be called the ‘Rockies’ and, so as to avoid any possible confusion with a Denver based baseball team...they’re not.
