I am not keen on musicals at all nor am I keen on opera. Both usually have silly stories. But the works of Rice and Lloyd Webber are a different category and are about more substantial subjects. Their songs appeal to me as ballads, rock 'n' roll, dramatic, moving, funny etc.

I like the placing of Eva Peron (cynical pragmatist) against the spirit of Che Gavara (idealist, dreamer). It is not explicitly stated that it is Gavara but it is obvious.

In a way Jesus Christ Superstar is the same set-up. We see Jesus having to contend with Judas who believes that things could get dangerous if they are not careful. He reluctantly accepts the 30 pieces of silver for the betrayal, he believes that the betrayal was necessary to avoid serious trouble. It is an interesting twist on the story that we well know. Just as Che is the best part in Evita, Judas is the best part in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Carl Anderson and Antonio Banderas in the films do superb jobs.

I bought the original concept album and saw the original stage show in London's West End. I am not keen on most musicals but this was special. I do not even remember who was in it but it was so different to anything that had gone before it. I admire it for neither being a crass musical nor being too high brow, simply entertaining and moving, without taking the p*iss. Lloyd Webber and Rice have the ability to appeal to a wide range of tastes within the same compelling show.

I do not go for musicals but the works of Lloyd Webber and Rice are a horse of a different feather. The best performers in the stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar have gone on to do the same roles in either the same production in several other countries or in touring productions. Ted Neeley (Jesus) did little else for at least a quarter of a century. When one production ended he was always asked to take the role in an equally big production elsewhere. Similarly Carl Anderson (Judas) was also often in demand, alongside Neeley.

There's a story about Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson that occurred during the making of the 1973 film of Jesus Christ Superstar. Neeley was being filmed up a mountain when he slipped and fell. His momentum carried him towards a point where there was a very long drop indeed. But luckily Carl Anderson happened to be able to prevent that from happening. So 'Judas' saved 'Jesus'.

I won't give my opinions on all of the tracks because it would take me to long but I've viewed all of the links that interest me

First of all I will get the negatively out of the way and say that I never enjoyed Glam Rock with the exception of Bowie if you can call him part of that scene,people sometimes say that they can remember when they first saw him on TOTP and being blown away by him,this is true with me especially when he put his arm around Mick Ronson singing Starman

So then then the positives...

Cat Stevens is a huge music hero of mine, absolutely love him and he did some great songs in the 60's including your choice but when he became more of a singer/song writer in the 70's he notched it up another level and he's such a kind and gentle man as well

Billy Joel,what can I say,he's fantastic,his early albums are always being played in the Chalky house,singles that I always sing along to would be It's Just Rock n Roll To Me,Honestly,My Life and Just The Way You Are but his finest moment has to be An Innocent Man,it's up there with my all time favourite songs and one of the few that could make me cry if I let it

Joe Brown,he outshone everyone in the Concert For George and when you look at who was there that's saying something,there's something beautiful about his comments on George and his version of I'll See You In My Dreams which brings me to the Ukulele Orchestra,I'm sure that you've put links up of them before so you must rate them a lot,did you once put up a link so a group playing vegetables or was that part of weird dream I had,do you play the ukulele?

Dave Edmonds was very good around the late 70's alongside Nick Lowe who still makes great albums to this day,Girls Talk is a great cover and I can remember buying back in the day,was he signed to Stiff at the time,he may have but I'm not looking to check right now as I will lose this post and I'm to far gone now 😂

Abba and Carpenters should also be mentioned as well because although they are sometimes sneared at by music lovers who think they are cooler than the rest in truth they was musically superior to many in the day,middle of the road maybe but what harmonies

I could go on about your choices and over all I will give you a 9/10 so thanks for sharing with us

Looking back on your choices I forgot to mention Peter Skellern,that's an unusual choice as I can't even remember the last time that I heard him on the radio

Simon and Garfunkel are top class of course,I enjoy listening to the early S+G albums when they was folkier but The Boxer and the Bridge over Troubled Water has its moments but nowhere the legendary status that it's sometimes given,Paul Simon brought out some solo great albums that outshine Graceland but that's considered his best,I beg to differ although it's good
