    Matchday Thread: Derby v Oxford

So here we are, trogging down to Oxford for the reverse fixture to that momentous Day in July when Derby were reborn. I think most of us will be pleasantly surprised with our performance overall since then, but we've lost our way a bit in the last few weeks, and despite having 'Mr Promotion' in charge thesoothsayers amongst us could be looking back at campaigns in the last decade that petered out as the season progressed

Looking at the next six games and taking current iffy performances into account we could get 18 points or we could get none, but as an omptimist I'll wager we'll start that run of games with a victory

    2-1 Derby

Hopefully there will be a bit if a refresh and the squad gets a win and we keep our play off place. Rarely do I say must win, but we really do need 3pts here! I'm hopeful we get back to keeping a clean sheet, 2-0.

Oxford are on a dismal run and are likely to be more desperate for a turn round in form and 3 points than us. Could get a bit feisty in the circumstances. Expecting a narrow victory...hoping for a more convincing one. As suggested above...we really do need to get back to winning ways quickly.

I presume you mean us 'old farts'!!

Yes, we've seen the promise of better times to come only for the season to peter out into a big let down countless times before and no doubt we will again. Will we this season, indeed are we already?? It has to be said that it's looking a bit iffy, first choice players are beginning to look somewhat jaded (or knackered depending on your viewpoint) with the manager having limited options on the bench and other clubs seemingly on good runs!
I think I have to agree with Swale when he reluctantly says that this is a must win game, let's hope that the players can turn over a beatable Oxford side and get their mojo back (well some of it anyway!)
    A scrappy 1 - 0 win may just provide a lifeline!! 🙏🤞🤞

We have hard games to come against Posh, Ipswich and Wendy. That would point to us getting a meagre return from those games, maybe 3 points? That would see us needing about 20 points from the other 8 games, making all 8 "must win" games.

A 0-2 win at Oxford would be a good way to start...

When you say it like that MA the play offs seem unlikely! I don't think I'll be putting a bet on!

I don't know if they'll have had much chance to work on anything since Plymouth, so other than receiving a verbal rocket up the jacksie, I don't see much changing Saturday. Hoping to see some resolve, and a 2-1 victory, even if it's ugly and we have to come from behind ourselves (as the actor said to the bishop!).

Bolton's next 3 are Wendy, Ipswich and Plymouth... and they have 1 less game than us left to play

Wycombe have a game in hand on us but only Barnsley and Ipswich as hard games.

    Game on.

Lost the first, drew the 2nd won the 3rd. Dip over? Their new manager is no stranger to Wycombe. He played for them from 2003 until retiring on Feb 2nd 2022. He knows the players, most of them anyway, knows their style.....
