The Parliamentary Privileges Committee 'Trial' of Boris Johnson

The Parliamentary Privileges Committee 'trial' can result in a guilty verdict and impose a punishment only of a number of days banishment from the House Of Commons. The punishment has to be voted on by the entire House Of Commons, 650 MPs. It can annul the punishment or confirm that it take place. If the punishment takes place and it is for a 10 days or more banishment from the House Of Commons a recall petition would be triggered in Uxbridge. The voters of Uxbridge would have 6 weeks to sign the recall petition at various polling stations or may do so by post or proxy. If 10% of the electorate vote for the petition then the Speaker of The House Of Commons is informed and Uxbridge would then not have an MP. A by-election would take place at a time specified by the Conservative Party. The dismissed MP may be a candidate.

In my opinion the Parliamentary Privileges Committee will have sufficient evidence to find Johnson guilty of misleading Parliament. Even though 4 of the 7 Committee members are Conservative MPs they will have to find him guilty. To not do so would cause uproar and make the Conservatives even less popular than they now are throughout the country. But I believe that the punishment will be for Johnson to be banished from the House Of Commons for less than 10 days, which is of course no punishment at all. That would be approved by a majority of the entire 650 MPs and the matter would then be over. The various media have substantially exaggerated the possibility of Johnson losing his Uxbridge seat.

Boris Johnson will be found guilty by the committee and be given a ban of several days from the House Of Commons, which of course amounts to zero punishment. This verdict and sentence will be approved by a full vote of the 650 MPs because of course the Tories have a majority of 62.

This, effectively null punishment, is OK by me because it will further drag down the reputation of the Tories in the opinion polls and in the May Local Authority Elections.

This incredibly vile and formidably corrupt government is falling apart.
