This Southgate has a charmed life. He's no phookin idea, but gets a result like that. At least another year for him again after that win.

I thought Kane was exceptional tonight, he was everywhere on the pitch and I loved how he crawled back on after he was winded.

I'd love to know what he said, in ten minutes or so, he turned a team of footballing thoroughbreds, totally dominating Italy, into a collection of Blackpool donkeys, unable to get out of their own half. Gareth is a genius, no other word for it, is there another manager in world football who could have wrought such a remarkable transformation in so short a time ? I really don't think so.

Any football person who thinks Maguire and Phillips should be playing in the same team as Bellingham and Kane really does need to reconsider what they know about football.

Despite the WC miss I still believe Harry Kane is the world's No 1 penalty taker. No mind games with the keeper, no fannying about trying to send him the wrong way, the occasional one low and hard into the corner but the vast majority hit hard and on an upward trajectory, taking the keeper out of the equation. If I was a football manager/coach, I'd be telling any of my prospective penalty takers, you take them like Harry Kane or you won't be getting near the penalty spot. It's a shame Gareth didn't take that approach, or he might have won something by now.

It’s a tough one that - but right - watched McGuire last night in far corner and he kicked the ball in to touch because he couldn’t wrap his foot around it to clear up field - how is he playing ? However do we really have anything head and shoulders better, in fairness to Philips though I don’t believe he’s international class hasn’t played first team football for months and is asked to play at the highest level.

It come s back to the man in charge I’m afraid he got away with one yesterday ( southgate ) that is - his de motivation speech at half time must have been something to behold , and his inability to change and stop the oppositions shape and head of steam was there for all to see at international level that’s not acceptable imo anyway.

We have a crop of footballers who are elite and if you like a golden generation but we need to making better use of them.

I agree wholeheartedly army, with the current crop of players we should have won the euros and been in the final of the World Cup at least. They are under utilised by Southgate.
