    Paul O'Grady

Bit of a surprise to learn of his passing last night. Only 67 too! Personally, I wasn't a great fan but still enjoyed some of his stuff- including his alter-ego Lily Savage-but he was clearly a well liked entertainer in that very peculiar British tradition. Remembered by many as a genuinely nice guy too. RIP

Seems to be a lot of 'died unexpectedly' about these days

I think that he had suffered from heart problems for quite a few years. Not a fan of drag acts but admired him for all the work he did for dog charities. RIP.

Absolutely. He was one of the few genuinely caring people on TV.

He did a huge amount for positive PR regarding Staffordshire Bull Terriers. Best dog I've ever had by a country mile. You can't underestimate how much he has played in people now accepting what a great dog they are and in them being voted the best dog in Britain recently. Thanks Paul.

I've had four Staffies brought up with my children and grandchildren, my daughter and grandson also have Staffies, I wouldn't have any other breed, so thanks a million Paul

Certainly he did a lot to dispel the myths about "dangerous" Staffies which was mostly encouraged by the d ickhead owners who wanted to appear "hard". In truth, it doesn't take much effort to discover that for generations, as well as being known for unscrupulous use as fighting dogs, Staffies have long had a reputation as being ideal family dogs. When we were looking for a rescue we always considered staffies and all the ones I have known have been really good with people ( though not necessarily so tolerant of other dogs).

No doubting that the different breeds have propensity for different characteristics but poor ownership is surely the key reason for the spate of "out of control" dog stories we are currently seeing. Post covid, I've certainly noticed where I am that there are increasing number of dog owners who really don't know what they are doing
