    Conference league

The SFA will soon be voting on the proposal to add a fifth tier that includes colt teams. Methinks the Society should be polling fans to help guide the club's vote. Not so?

Don’t know much about this but I think I read that the “ticket” for a senior club to have a colt team in the proposed league is £100,000 (presumably per season). Do we think that having a team of young players in that league is worth that sort of expenditure? It’s a chunk of dosh for a club of our level of turnover and I suppose it is a case of assessing what the benefit would be to player development in the proposed league as opposed to whatever competitive football is available for colt teams outside such a league. Presumably there are only a set number of places available in the proposed league and the five “city” teams will be at the head of the queue for places. Not convinced we should be pursuing a place.

The farce of the reserve league suggests it'd be useful. Useful enough for the cost? Hard to say.

Only secure if it allows us to bring through and develop young players we can later sell on for transfer fees. See no merit in our club spending if as suggested £100,000 a season on players development if we allow their contracts to run down and all we may then get is development fee.

You say allow like we have total control of the matter... sadly not.

Development fees, or negotiating around them at least, still bring in hundreds of thousands.

Good to see that the Society are now inviting members to give an opinion on the SFA proposal. There's more in the latest newsletter and a link to a reply template.

    From the newsletter...

Motherwell FC will not be entering a B team.

The proposal is nothing but an attempt to solve the Old Firms problem with developing youths and at the same time effectively relegating 200 teams in the pyramid. What price sporting integrity when 40% of the teams in a ten team league can't be promoted. It's not exactly a competitive set up.

Sky Sports are reporting that the proposal has been shelved - back to the drawing board. hehe :-)

Good news but the proposal will no doubt be back in a while.
