    Offside flag

This may have been asked before, but why, if the lines-person identifies a player as offside, do they not raise the flag immediately? Offside is offside, is offside, there is no "advantage played" argument, so why not flag it immediately and let's get on with game play that counts?

Because the offside player is deemed to be onside until he makes a play for the ball.

WTF??? Offside is offside is offside, end of, why make it any less clear cut? As if it wasn't complicated enough, the powers that be seek to make it more so, f00king stupid.

    (But thanks for the explanation!)

Yep its to allow the play to continue and for a VAR check to make sure they don’t stop something which wasn’t offside.

In our first season back I think that led to Van Dyke’s ACL injury as he then had to make a tackle when the play should already have been stopped.

Football should be a simple game and not rely so much on technology imho which interrupts the flow too much.

    The offside sitaution is insane.

several bad injuries have occurred and more than a couple of keepers have been cannoned by shots that were all after the offside occurred.

amazing to me that we can play games at lower levels without VAR and these goofy rules and they work out fine.

Is because the player who is offside may wish to identify as "onside" and to ignore that wish would be a blatant violation of his/her/their 'uman right innit? This is the kind of transoffsidephobic thinking that would cause the Oxford University Sporting Diversity Society to internally combust with apoplectic rage.

    Lol
More like 3 seasons of 'comédie noire' !

Latest episode features Peter Bankes the ref from Liverpool our match official on Sunday. He's poor & has never officiated a match involving Liverpool, Everton or Tranmere - so gotta be an Evertonian for sure to add to our seasons of woes thus far & ex-Evertonian Moyes won't do us any favours.

Unless, hopefully it'll be a case of the Hammers won't be up for our visit - days off, sore heads & bigger Euro game to think of for them. 🤫
