Thread: A word on Dwight McNeil.

  1. #1

Wink A word on Dwight McNeil.

I was truly amazed and delighted at the lad's attitude playing for Dyche in Everton's relegation battle.

I will happily hold my hand up and say I was wrong in my opinion of him. If Southgate wants a left sided midfielder with the heart of a lion he needs look no further than Dwight McNeil.

His performance in the 5-1 win at Brighton probably kept the club afloat. Well done son.

Very magnanimous BT , but very true all of it mate - the lad is a very decent footballer.

I’ll say this for him if he had pace he’d be a superstar and priceless

Since SD took over in February, Everton have scored 19 goals in 18 games. Dwight has scored 5 goals and has 2 assists during those games.
His contribution to the side during those games has been tremendous and that is to his credit because he took a lot of stick from the fans in the first half of the season. Since SD became manager Dwight has played the full 90 minutes in every game.
We forget that he is just 23 years old and has made 170 PL appearances and that, at the end of the 2020/21 season, he did not have a complete break between seasons because he was with the England Under 21 squad in Slovenia. He then came back from there and made 40 appearances for the Clarets last season and took a lot of unnecessary stick.
You don't just stop being a good player, however, you can go through patches when it just doesn't happen for you and this affects your confidence. SD has got him playing again and I hope that he continues in this vein.

Kieran Trippier has more chance of playing left side midfield in a Southgate team than Dwight does, it's just not going to happen.
