Thread: Clarets Goal of the Season?

  1. #1

Question Clarets Goal of the Season?

I have to go with Benson's top corner curler down at Deadwood.

Won us the League and stopped the B@stards play-off push dead in its tracks.

    How can you beat that?

My favourite was Scott Twine's 87th minute free kick against WBA. We were behind for most of the game, Tella equalised in the 75th minute, then Twine, who had only just come off the bench, won the game with an exquisite, perfectly placed free-kick.

It saw off one of our big promotion rivals, Vinni had been puffing them up as one of the best teams in the league, Scott had missed the first half of the season, he'd hardly played and it was his first goal for us, the pressure on him must have been immense, but he executed it to perfection. Besides, it was a last minute winner after being behind for most of the game, they're the best goals of all.

He scored an even better one against Cardiff sinkov. From our perch in the Jimmy Mac upper it looked impossible to get it up and over the wall because he was so near to the edge of the penalty box - but he did.

Benson’s title winning goal at Ewood and Twine’s perfectly executed free kick v West Brom are both good shouts for goal of the season along with Zaroury’s superb strike at Sunderland. I just loved Ashley Barnes opener against Rovers at Turf Moor. It had everything. A superb cross from Anass, Ashley’s emphatic header and keeper in the net to finish it off.

I always admire guys who can make a graceful goal under great pressure. It takes a lot of nerve!

I thought the same about the WBA one, I remember saying to Mrs S, 'bugger, that's too close to the edge of the box, 6ft further back he'd score this', then he scored it anyway. I loved Outwood's suggestion as well, Ash putting the ball and the Blackburn keeper into the net, as the Daily Mail hack put it, 'because he's Ashley Barnes and that's what he does'. For sheer enjoyment and delight, that goal is the winner.

You will find total overwhelming congruence with me on that one.

I'd go for Twine's debut goal too, bend it like Beckham. Benson's v QPR would be a close second, it was exquisite.

If you take away the brilliance of just a strike ( I use that loosely) as Benson Zaroury and Tella scored some belters.

My choice would be Barnes header against Rovers , the build up and Zarourys pin point cross and then the sublime header get my vote , a team goal not an individual effort.

Plus he put their keeper in the B@stards net.
